A few weeks ago I met a young lady on Facebook names Albany Rose. She wrote some pro-choice mumbo jumbo on Abby Johnson's Facebook wall about how she is Catholic and has had an abortion and wasn't sorry she had one. After a civil debate she announces a little later that she is pregnant and is looking for a free health clinic because her fiance does not want her to go to Planned Parenthood.
She has now returned and has said how her views about life have completely changed and she is starting to volunteer in the Pro-Life community! Thanks be to God! I pray that her conversion continues and she repents for her previous abortion and she can return to the Table of Christ in a state of grace!
Dear Jesus, please watch over Albany through her pregnancy and help her turn fully back to You and Your Church!

In Reference to My Last Post
Ok, still talking about homosexual 'marriage' here:
I was reading the Gospel of Matthew last night and I came across this:
I was reading the Gospel of Matthew last night and I came across this:
"Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so; some, because they were made so by others; some, because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Whoever can accept this ought to accept it." (Matthew 19:12)Is this a reference to the fact that those who have homosexual tendencies ought to accept the single life? I'll admit, I am no theologian. Just thinkin'.

NY Legalizes Gay Marriage- My Thoughts
I will be the first to admit, and some of you think that I may be a little hypocritical, that the issue of Gay marriage tears at my heart. I know and am friends with a lot of people who identify as homosexual, and they are wonderful people! My Graduate Studies Mentor, Dr. Richard Stevens, is an awesome and intelligent man who is openly gay and specializes in homosexual development studies. He fully understands that people have different political views and he urges to speak you mind as long as you stand behind your beliefs and defend them despite social pressure. I have taken classes on homosexual development and since I am fascinated with spiritual development, I am even more interested in the spiritual development of those who identify as homosexual.
Despite all of that, I understand and agree with the Catholic Church's stance on marriage. Marriage is a sacramental covenant between a man, a woman, and God. We enact the marriage covenant through the act of physical love and that act must be both love giving and life giving. If it is not open to love or life then it is degrading the act of the marriage covenant. That is also the reason why I am against contraception. If you practice artificial birth control, then you are degrading the marriage act. Scott Hahn described this as equal to receiving the Eucharist and spitting it out!
Therefore, since the homosexual act cannot conceive life, then it is not a marriage covenant and is an unholy act. HOWEVER, this does not mean that those who identify as homosexual are evil or anything of that nature! We are to show compassion to our LGBT brothers and sisters, though we do not have to condone their actions.
I do not believe that homosexuality is a learned trait and I don't believe that one can 'pray away the gay'. Those who promote that kind of idea I think are degrading the dignity of homosexual people. For some reason, one that I cannot explain, God gave them homosexual desires. But why? Is it some type of burden that is supposed to bring them closer to God? There are many who feel that their homosexuality is not a burden and those who feel that it is. I know some who have decided to live a celibate life and those who live openly with their partners.
Despite my confusion, I still think that marriage is between a man and a woman and that it is wrong for New York, and all of the other states to re-define that meaning.

Facebook Debate!
I enjoy a good civil debate, and I emphasize the word civil. Even though I may not agree or respect your politics, and I am mainly referring to the pro-life debate here, I still respect you and your human dignity. It you use contraception, or have had an abortion in your past, I will still treat you with dignity, however, I will pray for you.
I have gotten engaged in a pro-life/pro-choice debate via Facebook on Abby Johnson's Facebook fan page. Abby Johnson has written an awesome book called Unplanned, and I highly recommend it. Abby was the director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas, saw first hand the horror of an abortion after she witnessed an ultrasound-guided abortion and she pretty much turned pro-life instantly and now is an activist for the cause! Her story is awesome and I think everyone should read it.
But, back to my debate. As we all know, pages like these sometimes attract trolls who want to start a debate. This started with Miss Alexa who came on to the page and I think intentionally wanted to start a debate. Which is fine, like I said, keep it civil and BRING IT ON! It went like this:
· Abby Johnson: Pro-life advocate's Profile
So, I think I did a decent job defending life, and I give Miss Alexa a KUDOS for remaining civil. There was no yelling, no name calling or anything of that nature. Let us all pray for Alexa and hope that maybe this debate will have an affect on her views and that she will respect the right to life!
My Lord Jesus, I pray for Alexa. Please wrap her up in the sea of your Divine Mercy and help her to respect the life of ALL people, great or small.

A fetus in NOT a baby. I stand for women's right to choose what she wants to do with her body. You, apparently, do not, and that sickens me. It is MY body, so it is MY choice!

Saint Thomas More's Feast Day!
Saint Thomas More is one of my favorite saints, and not because he was a character on the show, The Tudors. He was a great man who favored the education of women, which was unusual at the time, and preferred to die than to betray the tenants of the Catholic faith. He is also the patron saint of my blog! So, I feel that I have to honor him today.

Inspirational Women!
I was flipping through the channels the other night and I stopped on EWTN, you know- that Catholic channel. There was a show on there called Life on the Rock. It is a Catholic talk show that is mainly geared towards adolescents and they have speakers on a variety of topics. I actually like the show and I try to watch it whenever I can.
The past couple of weeks they have had some very inspirational women and this has truly been a blessing since I am trying to work out who I am as a woman and what my womanly role is.
Sister Miriam James is a young nun who came out of the whirlwind of a sinful life and has now dedicated herself to the religious life, thanks to the prayers of her parents who never gave up on her. Sr. Miriam is not your stereotypical nun, she loves sports, movies and blogging. She has a rather cool blog and I recommend it. She spoke about femininity and the dignity of being a women. She stated that society is trying to convince women to give up their dignity and femininity by contracepting themselves and trying to act like men.
Leah Darrow is another inspirational woman. She first made her appearance on season 3 of America's Next Top Model. I used to enjoy watching ANTM when I was a little younger because I do like fashion. I may not be considered to be the 'most fashionable' person, but I do enjoy shopping and looking nice. Heck, what woman doesn't! Eventually I stopped following the show because, like a lot of reality shows, I felt it stopped being real and began to be more staged. People arguing for the sake of drama and gossiping about other lost it's appeal for me, plus I began to dislike Tyra Banks, thinking she was doing the show more for the money and for the sake of doing a show rather than doing it for the fashion and models. I also started to become disillusioned with the kinds of things she was making these young girls do, and there are only so many cat-fights you can take.
Now, for those of you you may have read my previous posts, I wrote a big portion of my last entry on The Real Housewives. Yes, I do sometimes watch that reality show to unwind at the end of some stressful days, and I do think that some of those shows are staged and fake. But just like ready a trashy romance novel helps you relax, so does watching stuff like the Real Housewives. Yet, I think there is a difference between the Real Housewives and ANTM. Mainly being, the young women on ANTM typically come from poorer families and they are trying to find ways of reaching a dream. The producers of that show take advantage of them by making them sign a contract saying they must do everything they are told or else they will be sued, and coming from a poorer home, that is a terrifying concept. They go as far as having camera's in the bathroom's of the house these ladies stay in and having clear shower doors and no doors to the bedrooms, and the camera operators are men. So, here young ladies are being exposed to the public while men videotape them. I believe this reduces their dignity. The Real Housewives are already rich people, and while they may be creating drama for the sake of drama, their privacy is not being infringed upon.
But, ANYWAY, back to Leah Darrow who I think is an awesome lady. Leah, like I said was a season 3 contestant on ANTM and after she was eliminated continued to try to make it in the modeling world. Coming from a devoutly Catholic family she eventually had an epiphany during a photo-shoot where she was, as she puts it, 'anything but modest' and she realized that that was not the life she wanted to live.
Now, Leah travels around the world giving lectures of what it means to be a woman and dressing modestly. Like the Modestia blog, Leah shows that modesty does not mean frumpy! Leah is a beautiful woman, both inside and out, and she looks great!
I have had a complete change of thought when it comes to how I dress. While I was away from the church, I really didn't give a thought about modesty. I don't think I went overboard with provocative dress, mainly because I was very self-conscious about my body and I don't wear things like shorts, short skirts, or knee-length skirts without pantyhose. However, I did not think twice about showing off the boobs. I liked wearing low-cut dresses or blouses, or tank-tops that showed some cleavage. Now, since I am more conscious about how I dress, I always try to dress more modestly. I will always go to Sunday Mass wearing a dress/skirt and I make sure my shoulders (and boobs) are covered.
Now, here is a little funny story. My grandmother and I went shopping for my birthday. She asked what I wanted and I told her that I wouldn't mind a dress to wear to Mass on Sunday's. So we went to our favorite place, Dress Barn, and I saw this beautiful purple, vintage looking, V-neck dress. She bought it for me, along with a pair of purple earrings to match. Since it was a sleeveless dress, I bought a shrug to match. I looked in the mirror, and I thought I looked nice. Then I get into the car, look down, and because of the V-neck, my boobs were about ready to pop out! Standing I looked fine! Sitting, however, was a different story! Never the less, I was very self-conscious during Mass. However, it all turned out ok. I just made a mental note to wear a lacy camisole under the dress from now on.
Leah and Sr. Miriam James are examples on how you can live according to the teachings of the church and still be cool. They are great examples women and I think that you should check them out!

Dissent and Housewives
Ok, I am going to start off with the dissenters, a topic that irritates me the most.

Now, I am sure that there are people out there who think that there is nothing wrong with people who question authority, and in many areas I would agree with them. Also, there is nothing wrong with questioning your faith because this can lead you into a deeper relationship with God. HOWEVER, if you go as far as to deny the core values of Catholicism, like the Resurrection, the Divinity of Christ, Pro-Life issues, and the infallibility of the Pope, then you are not Catholic, you are Protestant and there is no place for you in the Church until you ask forgiveness and turn back to Christ. If you want to question and defy these core values, be my guest, but don't do it under the impression that you are still a 'good Catholic'. You will probably be more at home in the Episcopal church, so go explore your options.
Now, on to the Housewives.
I will admit, I will sometimes watch the Housewives of New Jersey, New York, or Orange County as a means of unwinding from a long and stressful day.
One of the new Housewives of New Jersey, Melissa Gorga who is the Sister-In-Law of Teresa Guidice

On Pentecost, the American Catholic Council, a group of faux Catholics, went against the orders of Bishop Vigneron and held a dissenting rally in Detroit. The ACC hosted speakers from pseudo-theologians who deny the bodily Resurrection of Christ, support the ordination of women, support the Pro-Choice movement, etc... The thing that sent the Bishop over the edge was the fact that they concelebrated a Mass with the laity, which included members of the laity wearing priest-like stoles. Bishop Vigneron sent a warning to all of his clergy warning them that if they were to participate in the heresy they would suffer the consequences, including the possibility of being de-frocked. Kudos to Bishop Vigneron! He is upholding his duty of making sure the Church's teachings are being upheld and he should be commended. Now, I am sure that there are people out there who think that there is nothing wrong with people who question authority, and in many areas I would agree with them. I will admit, I will sometimes watch the Housewives of New Jersey, New York, or Orange County as a means of unwinding from a long and stressful day.
One of the new Housewives of New Jersey, Melissa Gorga who is the Sister-In-Law of Teresa Guidice
was introducing herself and her family to the viewers. As she explained her home life she commented that she was taught to 'Be a cook in the kitchen, a lady in the parlor, and a whore in the bedroom'. All of the Housewives in NJ are Catholic, but it does not seem that they take Catholic teaching to heart. Now, I think it is great to see a somewhat traditional marriage being portrayed here, wives and mothers taking great care of the children and the household while the husbands and fathers work to provide for the family. However, to identify as a ladylike whore who cooks seems a little off. Besides a woman should not be a 'whore' in the bedroom, she should be a lover and companion, to call it being a whore demeans the marital act.
Now, you may think that I am splitting straws here, and maybe I am in a matter of speaking.
Alexis Bellino from the OC
Identifies as being a Christian and she supposedly holds very traditional Christian ideals. She shows a lot of skin while not hiding the fact that she does not support homosexual marriage and proudly admits the fact that her husband is the head of her household. Now, again, that is great, but a lot of the footage seems to imply that Alexis is very subservient in her relationship with her husband, and the other housewives of the OC seem to agree. Whatever her husband wants, Alexis does. She even states, 'He is my husband, I have to do what he says'.
My fiance, and soon to be husband, is the head of my household, but he does not order me around. We make decisions together and he is always asking me for my input. While it is great that people are talking about the concept of a traditional marriage, but Melissa Gorga and Alexis Bellino are not the greatest models of what a traditional marriage is.
I will say, that my favorite Housewife is Caroline Manzo from New Jersey.
Caroline is a strong woman who leads and defends her family and is not afraid to speak her mind in a clear and concise manner. As a traditional Italian woman she is very much like a mother hen when it comes to her children, but she is very wise and has a lot of common sense. When her sons announced they were getting an apartment on their own, she wanted to hang on to them so badly, but she knew she had to start letting go. She is the only housewife that has the most class. Most of the rest of them are vain and digging for drama. So, why do I continue to watch? Eh, it's mindless entertainment and sometimes that is something we all need.

Confirmation
My fiance, Rick, was Confirmed yesterday! I love my fiance very much and I am so proud of him. We certainly have had an interesting spiritual ride. Rick was born and baptized Catholic and had his first communion but was never confirmed. His mother stopped taking him to church when he was about 10 years old. Not that it bothered him, he couldn't stay still in the Latin Masses and he was glad that he wasn't forced to go back.
But, about two years ago when I felt the tug in my heart to return to church, he eventually followed. We both then fell back in love with our faith and we are now stronger than ever. After being away from the church for over 40 years, he was confirmed.
I am so happy for him. I remember when I was confirmed. Standing before the bishop can be a little intimidating, but it is an experience that is carved into my heart! Since I love music I took Cecilia as my patron saint. Rick chose St. Joseph.
I am still going through a Dark Night. It's strange. I've been praying for Christ to come into my heart and help me to feel the love he has for me. It has not happened yet and the strangest thing is is that I know my faith is the strongest that it has ever been, but yet I am not feeling the emotional benefits. I think that describing this kind of emotion is one of the hardest things to describe because when you put it into words it does not make sense.
I will continue to pray and hopefully when this Night is done my faith will be even stronger.

Too Judgemental?
I am finding that the more conservative I become, the more frustrated I become with liberal Catholic ideology. What I mean by 'liberal Catholic ideology' is people/groups like Catholic 4 Choice, Catholics who do not follow the church's teaching on contraception, abortion, who go to Mass dressed in short-shorts and flip-flops, what I consider to be really big issues, because I find these to be the basics. Believing that life starts at conception and modesty are integral to the foundation of Catholic Morality, at least in my opinion.
This past week it has come out that the Vatican has reaffirmed the Catholic Church's stance on the issue of the use of condoms to prevent the spread of AIDS in Africa. About a year or so ago the Pope made comments that the media took out of context and the secular world thought that the church would change her stance on condoms and contraceptives. The church instead stuck firm to her guns and said that condoms are not the best thing in preventing the spread of AIDS, abstinence is, and all of the AIDS clinics in Africa (The Catholic church is the #1 provider of AIDS care in Africa, BTW) will not provide condoms to their patients.
It was thought that the condom would be the magic thing that prevents the spread of AIDS. They are being handed out like candy, literally, and it has done nothing to prevent the spread of the disease. So, the magic cure is not so magic after all.
But opponents of this position basically say that people are going to have sex, and protected sex is better than unprotected sex, right? Why don't people hold themselves to a higher standard? Even if you have sex with a condom it is not 100% affective. I don't know about you, but I do NOT want to take that chance when it comes to AIDS. Not having sex or being celibate within a married relationship is the only thing that is 100% guaranteed to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted AIDS.
Almost every time I read an article I also read the comments that people leave behind. It frustrates me and makes me angry when people say that church is immoral or behind in the times. I immediately begin to villianize these people even though I know that is wrong.
Only God knows the hearts of people. Even if their view is misguided does not make them a bad person. I don't know why I find myself judging these people when I should be praying for them. I am asking God to give me patience and not judge the hearts of others.
